One day two cats stole a piece of cake from the Kitchen of a householder. They had a dispute over their shares. As a result, they did not come to a decision how they. But all went in vain. Then they were about to fight with each other. At that time a monkey appeared there. He heard the whole thing and told the cats to give the cake to him. He gave them assurance that he would divide it equally among them. The monkey broke the cake into two pieces. But one piece grew a bit larger than the other. He bit off a portion" from the large piece and it now became a bit smaller than the other piece. He bit off a portion from the second piece in order to make the two pieces equal. But the second piece grew smaller again that time. Thus the monkey tactfully ate the whole cake. The cats could understand their foolishness and were very sorry for losing their cake.

The crow and the jar
The crow and the jar !
Once upon a time on a sultry day in summer, a brow felt very thirsty. It flew to and fro looking for water. But it could find no water anywhere. At last it grew so thirsty that it thought that it would die. It, however, continued its search and found a jar at some distance. At once the crow flew down to have a drink of water from the jar. But it found that there was a little water at the bottom of the jar. It thrust into the jar. It could by no means reach it with its beak. But it did not lose heart. It tried to overturn the jar but failed. It was about to fly away when it saw some stones a little way from the jar. At once it hit upon a plan. It picked up the stones one by one and dropped them into the jar. When he had dropped a large number of stones, the water in the jar rose high enough for him to reach it. Then the crow quenched its thirst drinking water to its heart's content.

The lion and the mouse !
One day a lion was sleeping before its cave. A mouse was playing nearby. By chance it ran over the lion's body. The lion woke up and became very angry. He caught the mouse and said, "Thou little pest, I will kill thee. How dare you tease me?" The mouse begged for its life. It said, "Your Majesty I am a tiny creature. If you kill a poor creature like me, it will do you no honor. Save my life for this time." Out of pity the lion let the mouse go. Some days after the lion was caught in a hunter's net.
The lion tried hard but could not get out. He began to roar. The mouse heard the roar of the lion. It at once came to the net and said,
“Your Majesty, please be quite. I will gnaw at the ropes of the net with my little sharp teeth. Then you will be released."
The mouse cut the net into pieces with its teeth and set the lion free. The lion said, "Dear little friend, you have saved my life. Even a little mouse can do a great good to a mighty lion."

At last, they hit upon a plan to get rid of the cat. They sat together in a conference to find out a way to be free from this danger. Several proposals*were made but none of the proposals was good enough to accept. At last a young mouse rose to speak before the meeting. He said, "I have a good plan for your consideration. Let us tie a bell round the cat's neck.
Then we will hear him coming and be able to hide ourselves in time. Thus we will be free, from the cat's threat." All the mice thanked the young mouse for his unique plan. But an old mouse stood up and said, "No doubt, the idea is good. But who will bell the cat?" At this all remain silent because they could realize the danger of implementing the unique plan. There was none to tie the bell round the cat's neck. The mice eventually migrated
